Getting Dressed: As Close as I Get to Boho

I'm not knocking boho.  In fact, the mere concept of bohemian is extremely appealing to me.  I just don't rock it that much.  Or maybe I do.  Fine.  I just looked it up on Wikipedia.  Who even knows.  I'm not a fashion historian.  I'm... almost done with a quarter of teaching, close to being done with a semester of teaching, approaching a deadline of finishing half a book, approaching another of revising what I have of, um, another... but here I am, CLOTHED.

I enjoy this shirt - it is not lam-ay. (Spelled lame.  I need a text editor that does accents.)  Or maybe it is.  Fine.  I just looked it up on Wikipedia.  It is.  I thought it wasn't because I thought maybe lame was a treatment of fabric, not woven metallic thread.  Wikipedia apparently knows.  I'm not a fabric expert.  (And I do tell my students not to use Wikipedia.  Here is my wrist: rap it with a ruler.)

But it needed a "jewel" (scarf) and some extra subdued glam (fur) and it's cold out (hat) so this is what I came up with.  Scarf: $28.  Coat: $98.  Shirt: $1.50.  Beret: $8.

I'm going to go teach now.  But not about fashion or fabric.  ;)

Finals week for one school = buuuuuuusy!!!

Getting Dressed: Kind of French Maid-Like

The day needed color.  There is none to be had outside.

This dress (free) is kind of big.  So I put on a red frilly vintage slip ($3) and what has been kind of a staple these last few weeks, the red shoe and red tights combo ($67.50, $3).  Of course, I had to wear my "Amanda Wingfield" coat (also free).  Glamor ministers to me.  And I love how the neckline kind of creates an accessory look without actually being an accessory.

Getting Undressed and Working on the Thanksgiving

Here's a little fashion for you.

This is why you want to become a royal.  So you can be a paper doll in your skivvies. ;)

So it's the day after Thanksgiving (or as Carra calls it, xgiving), but things have just begun.  And whether I like it or not, Christmas has decidedly superseded Thanksgiving instead of remaining discrete.  Psh.  Oh well.  I'm still in cornucopia mode.  Since I haven't had the chance to cook, yet.  Today and tomorrow.  Pumped.  I miss cooking.

And, somewhat randomly, here is a poem that I am writing out in my notebook today, to memorize (I forget where I first came across it - someone either posted it elsewhere or maybe from poets.org):

Love means to learn to look at yourself

The way one looks at distant things

Getting Dressed: Jello Cake

When I was driving on the interstate, from KY to IL, someone was hauling something in the back of their truck, and it was covered by an, uh, southwestern-print blanket.  (I still don't know what to call these prints.)  

It slayed me.  

I enjoy how style shifts.  I could say more on this.  I will.  Later.

When I bought this dress at SalArmy ($3.50) I didn't really think it had any, uh, southwestern sensibility to it.  

I think I was wrong.  The belt ($3, and re-sewn because it was too big) draws it out a bit.  The tights ($4) and shoes ($6) keep it from being too much of a piece.  (And yet plenty of another piece. :)

 I look like Jello Cake.

And too CRAZY. :)  Even the lady who sold it to me said so.

But I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

Getting Dressed: Two in One

Whether I like it or not, I gotta get dressed.  At least I usually feel better after I do it.  Like showering.  Like sitting down to write.

Yesterday's getup:

Feather "choker": $3.  Jacket: $6.  Skirt: $30.  Tights: $6.  Shoes: $30.

Today's.  I will possibly be hassled for not wearing enough color, so I am utilizing my orange purse.

Blazer: $6.  Shoes: $6.  Pants: $30.  Shirt: $2.  Clear stuff: blah blah blah.

Getting Dressed: The Only Color Combination

Bright red and bright blue.  Color me joyous, already.  Joy is weird.  But I'll take it.

This dress was only $2, but I dropped dessert on it (I KNEW I would, too) and I'm going to get it dry cleaned for $12.  Siiiiiiiiiiiiigh

But that's OKAY, my novel is going EXCELLENTLY!  And so is my biography!  And so is the bathwater running right now!

Getting Dressed: Yeah I Just Wore This

This is a greatest-hits kind of week.  So some of my outfits I've worn fairly recently.  Or not so recently - but you still might remember them.

It's raining out.  My hair instantly collapsed.  That's okay.  I get to spend a chunk of time this afternoon in my room, writing.  Sounds awesome - wish I had a fireplace. :)

And, I look skinnier in these pictures than I actually am.  This doesn't bother me.  Both that I look skinnier and the fact that I am not as skinny in *real* life.  But I thought I should disclose. :)
