Today was just one of those days where I had 1,000 little things to do. 500 of them, of course, were items of clothing I needed to pick up and deal with. But, I started the day picking up MORE clothes - from my dry cleaners/seamstress. More on that a minute.
I decided, in order to make my cleaning-up process more tolerable, to a) go thrifting and then b) do a mini fashion show. Because I just needed/wanted (same thing) to thrift, and I also had a few things sitting in the above pile from previous expeditions that I wanted to put away. Well, after showing them off. ;)
Because I only have about 20 stretchy bracelets, and need more? $10 for three bracelets and some clear earrings. I'm kind of bad about wearing earrings, but you know how I am about CLEAR.
Some gold shoes for $2. They are very strappy, so they are very wearable. I'll need to either glue the soles down myself, or pay $10 or so to have someone else do it. I love metallic shoes.
Today was a true killer for mod pumps. All of the above are from SalArmy. The ones on the left are a little outside of my normal, um, style "range", but they are just so dope. And deadstock. The middle ones - well, you know, they're metallic. And the ones on the right didn't fit until I pulled out the nasty old liners someone had stuck in. Love them all. $6, $4, $5.
I love it, I bought it, I'm selling it. Why? Because. I'm extremely picky. And this is too rad to keep, if I'm not 100% about it. I'm 70% about it. But I'm showing it to you to illustrate that thrifting is RAD.
I'm showing you this to illustrate the fact that I didn't realize that my butt shows up in the mirror in a good chunk of these pictures. And if the mirror isn't getting it, my stupid camera is getting in on the timer. I'm a dork.
I bought this dress at SalArmy about a year ago. I couldn't talk them down from $20. I ended up having to get my seamstress but in another tie for the back. And you have to wear a very special "bra" with this dress. But it's just so awesome.
Really and truly! Dork!
See? Regular bra doesn't cut it.
I have quite a rotation of cotton-y 80's shirts that either look good as-is, or belted. This is to illustrate how something can look dumpy on the hanger and even on:
But with a belt and rolled sleeves, all is well and all is well and all is well:
Shirt: $3. Belt: $2.
I passed this velvet blazer w/gold rope trim up once. I couldn't the second time. It's more of a winter or fall item, but that's okay. I really think it would look awesome with a long, fitted black dress. Or a t-shirt and pants. (I know my pants here don't really look optimum. I'm having ongoing black pants issues. I need to drop 5 pounds.)
I LOVE THIS PICTURE. Why does it have to be ruined by my behind. Sheesh. Apart from the rest of me, my behind needs to lose 5 pounds. Jacket: $4.
You remember this? Couldn't talk SalArmy down from $8, even though the dress was partially dismantled:
I had my seamstress, uh, re-mantle it. For $20. I'm still not sure where I'm going to wear it. But that's never been a real problem. ;)
I thrifted this dress a long time ago, but it was a minidress, and a mega-tight one at that, so I finally just got it shortened into a shirt. I'm not wearing it now, as I want to wear it some other time and I want to ROCK IT.
I can't state enough how much I love my seamstress. If I am going to shell out more-than-thrift-store prices on clothes, I will do it on alterations and repair. Such is the case of my favorite winter coat, which was in need of considerable small repairs/cleaning (buttons coming off, hem loose, part of the front coming undone, ketchup splotch). It was so incredible to get it back, all nice and neat and fixed and pressed. I love love love taking care of my favorite things.
Alright. Everything's put away. I am pleased about this. Can't you tell?
No, I really am. And to celebrate, I put on my thrifted leaf slip dress thingie, and my pink cardigan, and now I'm going to watch Grand Hotel. I've earned it.
