Getting Dressed: Disco Granny Cardigan

This cardigan - oh, this cardigan.  My mom bought it for me at an antique store and saved it for my for Christmas, 2 Christmases ago.  I sooooo looked forward to getting it - and when I finally GOT it, it was better than a surprise. 

Thing is, it's been hard for me to figure out how to wear it.  I mean - I know how to wear it.  But it is a particular garment.  It requires a casual shirt.  And I could either wear it unbuttoned, with long pants, or closed with a belt, with "casual" pants.  I'm kindof over my long pants right now - they smack too much of winter, which needs to be TRULY OVER.

So.

Beach Bum shirt (free), red 80's pumps ($3), a rare appearance of my Gap skinny pants ($10 on clearance but bought by my mom, bless her infinitely), red belt ($2) and THE CARDIGAN ($40 and entirely hand-beaded/sequined, but once again, a choice prize).

ShadowBlastTwiggyModtastic Update

I couldn't help it.  Because I only have 1,000 other things to do, I messed around with the ShadowBlast s'more.  (For all of 1 minute.)  I got all Twiggy on myself.  

I think her lower lashes would've really stumped me a bit, if it weren't for the fact that I saw a documentary recently where she explained she just drew the lower "lashes" on, after she was inspired by her Raggedy Ann doll.

If you're going to wear a lot of makeup, do it FANTASTICALLY.

Getting Dressed: Pac-Man and ShadowBlast

Let it be known that I'm not a fan of negativity or excessive mockery.  I just wanted to get dressed today - quickly - in something I didn't hate.  I knew it was pretty sedate for me.  One of my students, who must mock me CONSTANTLY, was snickering that my shirt looks like the dots Pac-Man eats.  Okay.  80's reference in clothing?  I don't think he understands that his mockery is GROSSLY UNINFORMED and of course, pointless.  I wear what I want to wear.  Frick the naysayers.  And let the rest of rejoice.

So anyways, my polka-dot cowl-neck drawstring-waist shirt: $3.  Over a lovely satiny rayon cowl-neck blouse: $3.

I am also wearing this:

I've been eyeing these (har har) for awhile.  Like, over 6 months.  I actually don't buy a lot of makeup - just 'cuz it would be so EASY to get on a kick of that, and I've got plenty that I need to go through.  But... I have bought two pink lipsticks in the last week.  And now this.  Granted, I was looking for a specific pink (still haven't found it but am happy with them, anyway).  But yeah - Shadowblast. 

My expectations of this product and the reality of it didn't exactly line up.  Mostly, I thought it would behave like a powder shadow.  I bought this color combo over the rest because I always am looking for ways to do that huge-eyed 60's look.

Well, I know I can do this, but it's going to take more work and products than two specially-tapered sticks of cream eyeshadow that end up smudging together.  Still, it's kind of fun.  I'm glad I bought it.

Getting Dressed: Hilo Hattie

My shoes match the toilet.

My face matches my mood.  Need to start a Crabbiness Holiday :)

I normally dislike the red-black-white color combo - needs a punch of cool color - and I also don't do this style of clothing... I suppose it is Asian-influenced, with the little frog clasps and all (are theyeven called that?  I fear I am possibly being very un-PC).  It is a Hilo Hattie top, though - and I thought that was more for Hawaiian-print dresses.  But anyways - comfortable and flattering.

By the way, I wore this to a funeral once.  In that case, it was a bad idea.

Getting Dressed: Busyness Trumps All

Good gosh, I have so much to do.  SO MUCH TO DO.  It'll get done.  But what won't get done is my makeup.

Getting Dressed: Insanity

Going to a wedding. :)  Had my outfit all picked out:

Then I put on the dress, and then hairsprayed my curls, and made the mistake of setting the base of the spray on my dress.  Insta-stain.  It might very well be ruined.

Second try:

Whatever.

This dress needs to be worn, though.  My mom bought it for me for $30, then I paid a WHOPPING $70 to have it fitted.  I didn't expect that, but I ended up having no choice.  It's a pretty hardcore dress.  Many layers.

Jacket: $24 deadstock vintage.  Shoes: $20.  

Getting Dressed: Paint By Numbers

Sometimes, paints by numbers is a good - even a great - thing. ;)

I have had this shirt forEVER.  I bought it at Urban Outfitters one thousand years ago.  I think it was $24.  And it was actually ten years ago.  Same difference.

It is a paint-by-numbers print that is partially painted.

I am very, very happy to be wearing this necklace again. :)

One of my new lipsticks!  It's the exact same color as my necklace!  Can you see it?  Arwen-style camouflage.

I LOVE LIPSTICK.

Getting Dressed: Lincoln Killed Animals, Too

Tired.  Way tired.  But in need of glamour.  Casual glamour.  Solution: Lincoln attacking a bear t-shirt and my other fur-trimmed cardigan.

And my black skirt. :)  I didn't buy any of this - my mom got me the cardigan and gave me the skirt, and my Anne gave me the shirt. :)  GIFTS RULE

Getting Dressed: Tim Burton-Style

Threw this on in a hurry.  Mary bought me the top - love it - and I recently bought the undershirt, a shapeless, unflattering thing.  But the stripes. 

 

 

I tried to find appropriate jewels for it, but nothing really worked, besides my black mod ring.  Later, as I was driving to school, I thought my black tie would look good with it.  Next time.
