I think perhaps I've said to some people that I don't buy clothes anymore. I lied. What I really meant is I don't buy them often. And when I do, they're either a) black pants or b) thrifted vintage. And also, it's when I'm looking for very particular things. AND I refuse to pay more than pittance. So, that's my Ways these days.
I'm into menswear. (I'm into a lot of things, but that's a big one right now.) Not androgynous, not masculine - just menswear. If it's women's clothing that looks like menswear, that's fine, too. Yes, I'm aware of Le Smoking and man, do I love it. But I rock it my own way.
I've recently fulfilled a wish and no longer have to wish for it anymore, but can enjoy it instead. Loafers. I'm pretty picky - they have to be flat. They have to look like men's loafers. I would've prefer some sort of gold or silver ornamentation, a la the Gucci horsebit, but it's ok.
I was having a "party" with myself today (spent a long weekend by myself with no car - now I have a car, and I had to get out) and when to nearby Marion, IL and discovered they had a decent Salvation Army. I found these.
I sortof doubt their vintage-ness. They are Bass penny loafers. They were $4. They are barely used and nice and narrow still and quite choice. Not the kind Stef from Pretty in Pink wears, but I'm not trying to look like Stef. (Though I like to look at Stef.)
I also found a navy blue wool tie ($2). I've been wanting to wear ties forever, but I don't like how some girls wear them, at least for me. I had a job where I had to wear one and it was magnificent. So, I've been on the lookout for solid-color ties. I also am always (always meaning when I party, like today - but it's rare) looking for vintage tuxedo shirts in bright colors. Women's or men's. I found a chartreuse ruffle one a few months ago, and it slayed me ($3). Chartreuse is one of my favorite colors!!!
And it's great with navy blue. :) So I played around with it. I do like the look of a tie that is more a necklace - knotted halfway up the front, with an open collar. But I couldn't resist this look.
Do I look like a nerd or what? I'm probably a dead ringer for my dad in the 70's. Nice. :)
